Solt - A polished casual dining experience

Chef Tai Lee has been making his mark on the Bryan/College Station restaurant scene for several years and shows no signs of slowing down. I recently had the opportunity to have a beautiful tasting at Solt, on University Dr. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to visit with Chef Tai, as his newest restaurant, at the George Bush Library, Daisy’s Table is keeping him busy.

Solt is described as polished casual dining. It’s a place to get a beautiful bottle of wine and a delicious meal, and not feel the pressure of “being fancy”. The prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere is open and fresh.

I started with the house salad, topped with a drizzle of house-crafted vinaigrette dressing, avocado, and a sprinkle of feta. A bowl of six onion soup to the side, rich and hearty, with a layer of gooey cheese.

If you love goat cheese, then you’ll love the baked goat cheese appetizer. Soft and warm, topped with dried figs, cranberries, and candied pecans, then drizzled with honey and served with slices of bread grilled to perfection. The combination of the tangy cheese and sweet toppings made this my favorite dish of the day.

The ahi tuna tartare was a cool and refreshing appetizer. The subtle tuna and creamy avocado perfectly balanced the robust flavors of sesame and chili oil. It was served with toasted tortillas for a crispy dipper.

Salmon with Risotto

The grilled salmon was nestled on a bed of mushroom risotto. The flakey salmon was well-seasoned, and the risotto was creamy and savory. A sizeable portion that’s sure to fill you up, but isn’t heavy, if you’re looking for a light summer lunch.

The poblano pasta with fried chicken breast, was a larger entree, with a huge portion of fettuccine tossed in a creamy poblano sauce, then topped with a tender chicken breast, breaded and fried crispy.

A delicate crème brûlée was brought to the table for dessert; beautifully presented, with a caramelized sugar crust, and a cool, creamy custard inside. This is your friendly reminder to always order dessert when you can.

House-crafted, infused vodkas line the back of the bar. So whether you’re looking for a craft cocktail or a glass of wine to enjoy with your meal, you’re sure to find a unique experience at Solt, in College Station, Texas.
