Jason Seymour, owner of Smitty K’s, owns a few other spots around town, including Joe’s Place. (You can read that article here.) However, he’s not the original owner. Cody Kerr and Robbie Smith have been friends since the second grade. As adults, they decided to try selling BBQ sandwiches at their local hangout, and that evolved into owning a food truck, then in 2014 they opened Smitty K’s. Their goal was to make a place that they would want to hang out. Big tvs all around to watch the games, a large grassy area where kids can play, an outside patio that’s perfect for enjoying when the weather’s nice, and even a large stage for live music. This place hits all the marks.
Jason has since bought it, and continued with all of those fun vibes. This is certainly the place to go if you want to watch a game and grab a drink and a good meal. Bring the kiddos too because there is plenty of room for them to run off their energy.
I had the opportunity to try so many tasty things on their menu. Starting with the grilled chicken breast sandwich. It was juicy inside with a nice grilled crust on the outside, and fresh veggies to round it out. If you’re looking for something light, but not feeling a sandwich, I suggest giving this sandwich a try.
However, if you are wanting a salad, they have the one to go to. The Southwest Chicken Salad is a huge bowl of crisp lettuce mixture, tomatoes, black beans, corn, and shredded cheese. Topped with crunchy tortilla strips, creamy avocado slices, that same juicy grilled chicken and your choice of dressing on the side. I got the cilantro lime vinaigrette and together all of this was the perfect combination of flavors.
Their pulled pork is smoked in house and then piled on top of a grilled jalapeno cheese bun with pickles and onions on the side. I got a side of Smitty K’s sauce with mine, and I highly recommend that. I not only poured it all over the sandwich, but y’all know I’m a hoe for a dipping sauce. The beer battered fries dipped in that sauce was fire.
The build your own burger was an impressive beast. Mine was a ⅓ pound of fresh ground beef, gooey, melted swiss cheese, sauteed mushrooms, and sizzling bacon. I left the veggies off this time to appreciate the flavors of all the grilled yumminess. The crispy, waffle cut sweet potato fries were the perfect addition to this basket.
If I was put on the spot, I wouldn’t be able to tell for certain which was my favorite of the day, the Southwest Chicken Salad, or the Flatbread Pizza. I loved the flatbread crust, honestly, that’s the best kind of crust to me. It was to die for, thin and perfectly crispy. Sausage, pepperoni, bacon, jalapenos, and mozzarella cheese topped it. Then served with sides of ranch, parmesan, and crushed red pepper flakes on the side. Would make a great appetizer to share with the table, or meal.
The cocktails were amazing; light, bright and refreshing. I don’t like heavy drinks so these were perfect with all of the dishes. The Smitty K’s punch, the Lemon Berry, and the Spicy Margarita. Out of the 3, the Spicy Marg was my favorite. More on the tangy side than sweet, with just a kick of spice. This one was impressive and I will definitely get it again!
