Around Thanksgiving, you often read social media posts full of gratitude, but this one was different. This bar and grill was so grateful for all of their blessings that they reached out to a local news celebrity to help spread the word.

Javier Quezadacavazos, owner of 33 Degrees, a new bar and grill in between Brenham, Texas and Somerville, TX off Hwy 36, was advertising that they were giving away 133 free meals on Thanksgiving. No catch. If you were hungry, didn’t have anywhere to go or anyone to join, you could show up and get a free meal on Thanksgiving day. All in the name of gratitude.

Javier’s a veteran, a Marine, and proud of it. Hanging on the wall are flags from every branch of the military, and if his guests are active or veteran military he asks that they please sign their branch’s flag. The Missing Man Table is set at the front of the restaurant, in honor of fallen brethren. He takes pride in his veteran status, his country, and his budding business.

However, Javier, and 33 Degrees, didn’t stop giving at Thanksgiving. They collected donations for Toys for Tots to make Christmas miracles happen for kids in their community. And still have other ideas that they’re working to make happen.

See, Javier believes that if you support your community, it will support you in return. He and his family moved from Houston only a few months ago to start this bar and grill because of safety concerns, their neighborhood was not what it once was. Now they’re hoping to grow their business and their bonds with their new community.

Their menu is small but mighty. You can get a platter with your choice of steak and shrimp, ribs, or chicken, and veggies.

Everything is grilled over charcoal and tastes like hanging out at a summer backyard BBQ.

If you support your community, it will support you in return.

Starting with the chips and salsa, the red sauce is smokey, tangy, and a medium heat. The green sauce though, was my favorite. I think it was a tomatillo sauce. It was fresh, light and so well seasoned. I loved the flavors of this one.

I’ve never had queso like this around here. Javier explained that it’s made traditionally, like you would find in Monterey, Mexico. Oaxaca cheese, bubbling hot, in a cast iron skillet, topped with a mound of spicy chorizo, then served with fresh out of the frier tortilla chips. Y’all know I’m a queso connoisseur, and this blew my mind. The cheese was so melty and smooth, with an unreal pull; the flavor was mild but distinct, definitely not “plastic cheese”. This is ranking right up there in my favorites now!

The ribeyes are aged for a week before being hand-cut into thick, 12oz steaks; perfectly marbled, seasoned, cooked, and served with 6 plump shrimp.

The pork ribs are juicy, tender, smokey, and glazed with a house-crafted sauce.

All of the platters are served with a stack of grilled asparagus and corn on the cob, and a baked potato that's dressed with butter and seasoning.

A satisfying meal that makes you feel like you were invited over to your family’s house. Warm and welcoming.

Whether you’re looking for an amazing steak dinner, or a cold beer, pool table, and fire pit for a Saturday night, go ahead and take the backroads on over to 33 Degrees and tell ‘em I said hi!

FYI Because I know this is not everyone’s cup of tea and is out of the norm these days, I just want to let you know that they do allow smoking in their establishment. No shade towards this amazing family or restaurant, this is just full disclosure.
