Stunned - did that really just happen....
Sitting on my couch, dreaming about big things and small towns, when I received an email from Bert Miller. Its subject was "Great Vibe!" and its content was a link to a Facebook page, Classic Rock Coffee Co. & Kitchen. I emailed back and asked if Bert was asking me to feature Classic Rock on my blog. When he said yes, I was bumfuzzled (ya know, confused.)
Ok ya'll, I don't know if you know this or not, but putting yourself, your thoughts and opinions, out on the internet, can be pretty traumatic. It can make a girl pretty unsure about her abilities. So when I received that email from Bert, it legitimately made me feel like - Maybe people really do want to see this stuff. Maybe I'm not the only one who LOVES small Texas towns, backroad riding, mom 'n pop restaurants, and dive bars.
Just maybe... So I sat there... Not knowing what to say...
Who am I kidding, it didn't take me long to reply - Of course, I wanted to feature Classic Rock Coffee Co!
Boog and I showed up that Saturday a little earlier than expected, so we browsed Downtown Navasota for a while, and found some really cool treasures. Then headed in to meet Bert and the crew.
The smell of fresh brewing coffee and warm bread engulfed me like a warm hug and rock and roll filled the air. Rock memorabilia hung on the walls, sparkling in the light. Bert was right, it did have Great Vibes! This is a place you want to hang out if you're local, and definitely don't want to miss if you're not from around here.
Bert and I sat and visited for a while. He's not only the owner of Classic Rock Coffee Co & Kitchen in Navasota, but also the President and agent of a local insurance agency, and the Mayor of Navasota, Texas. He's got a full plate!
In 2016, one of the few remaining downtown restaurants closed. Navasota had been working hard for years to bring their downtown to life, and losing that restaurant was a tipping point in Bert's mind. He felt they needed something else, to help enliven the area. One thing they didn't have at the time was a coffee shop, so he started doing his research.
The rest is history. Now it's a bustling coffee shop and restaurant that acts as an anchor for downtown. People can do some shopping, grab a bite to eat, relax, and cool off for a while, then head back out on their adventures.
Classic Rock Coffee Co & Kitchen has won multiple awards over the years, a couple of the most recent include Best Coffee Shop 2023 - Insite Brazos Valley Magazine and The Examiner's Reader's Choice 2023.
Too excited to wait any longer Boog and I headed up to the counter to order. We wandered the shop while we waited on our order; checking out all the cool gift items, collectibles, and the music shop in the back.
I'll have to head back out there when the weather cools off for a cup of hot coffee, but on this day, we needed it iced. I got the Crazy On You; it was a velvety smooth coffee, filled with rich cream, delicate caramel and vanilla flavors and subtle sweetness. It doesn't normally come with vanilla, so if the caramel/vanilla combo is your jam too, you'll have to ask for it. Boog loved the Cinnamon Girl; which had the earthier flavors of honey & cinnamon. That one will be especially good this fall.
Boog and I are notorious for sharing (picking off each other's plates) so we teamed up on this order. Our lunch was the light and refreshing Strawberry Fields salad, with strawberries, blueberries, pecans, and feta; on top of a bed of fresh spring mix and spinach, tossed with a raspberry vinaigrette. Perfect for these ridiculously hot days in Central Texas. We also ordered the War Pig. A flaky croissant, layered with a fried egg, ham, bacon, and provolone cheese. What, don't look at me like that, it had a side of fruit with it!! It was savory and buttery; a perfect compliment to the salad.
If you don't usually go through Downtown Navasota, you should definitely jump off the highway and start Takin' the Backroads. Stop in to Classic Rock Coffee Co and tell Bert we said hi!
