Here’s another quick review of a local joint that I’ve been wanting to check out for a while.
If you’re looking for a corner bar with great food where you can enjoy some time with your friends, Chubby’s Public House in Bryan, Texas is worth checking out.
I was looking for a place where I could get some work done, and grab lunch at the same time. I’ve been wanting to try Chubby’s, so I thought this was the perfect time. When I walked in, there was only one other table, and I asked the server if it would be ok if I stayed for a while. We joked about how busy it was and how she was sure she would be able to manage me being there too; automatically making me feel welcome.
The music was light enough to carry on a good conversation, and the restaurant's walls were almost all windows, making it bright and inviting.
I asked my server what her favorites were, and she went through the highlights of each section of the menu describing her favorite in each, and answering all of my questions.
For an appetizer, I couldn’t resist ordering the pretzel sticks. They were soft, warm, and freshly baked; dusted lightly with chunky pretzel salt, and served with a side of nacho cheese and spicy brown mustard for dipping.
The Italian Grilled cheese was two slices of grilled sourdough layered with melted cheddar,

provolone, parmesan, pepperoni, salami, and ham. The side of pizza sauce that the server suggested for dipping, brought it all together for a pizza vibe. But I couldn’t decide if I liked it better with or without the sauce, so I alternated each bite. The crunch of grilled bread, and dreamy, gooey cheese is the best texture combination in the world to me.
I upgraded my side to their Hot Shotz; tater tots stuffed with cheddar cheese and bits of jalapeno served with a side of homemade ranch. The jalapenos were just a mild kick, not even too spicy for a weenie like me.
It was a big sandwich and I definitely couldn't eat everything that I ordered, but it was totally worth trying it all. They had so many fun options that I’m looking forward to going back and trying.
If you’re looking for a relaxed atmosphere and good food, make sure you take a drive down the backroads to Chubby’s Public House in Bryan, Texas. You’ll be glad you did!
